The Greatest Hoaxes of All Time

As you may have heard by now, the story that Will Ferrell died in a paragliding accident was just a hoax, and a lame one at that. It was factually wrong, mathematically challenged, and included spelling errors. But if you like a good hoax, you might like to see this list of the 100 best April Fool's hoaxes of all time at the Museum of Hoaxes. It includes the Swiss Spaghetti Harvest, Sidd  Finch, the Taco Liberty Bell, Nixon for President in '92, and tons of other great ones. The list is incredibly entertaining, and also it might inspire you for April Fool's in a couple of weeks.

Just for fun, here's the entry for hoax number one:

The Swiss Spaghetti Harvest
In 1957 the respected BBC news show Panorama announced that thanks to a very mild winter and the virtual elimination of the dreaded spaghetti weevil, Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. It accompanied this announcement with footage of Swiss peasants pulling strands of spaghetti down from trees. Huge numbers of viewers were taken in, and many called up wanting to know how they could grow their own spaghetti trees. To this question, the BBC diplomatically replied that they should "place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best." [They have video of this.]
