Dave Newfeld Gets His Ass Kicked
Shortly after Broken Social Scene took the stage on Saturday at the Pitchfork-curated Intonation Music Festival, singer Kevin Drew announced to the audience: "We just decided 20 minutes into arriving in New York that it would be a good idea if we went and bought marijuana. And Dave preceded to get the s*** kicked out of him by four policemen, ladies and gentlemen! He got thrown in jail for 24 hours!" And then, amid the jeers, came the kicker: "And now the Broken Social Scene is suing the cops of New York City!"
New York really hates Canada eh? Well, just expect an angry letter in the mail. Maybe even two angry letters. Just you wait. My homeland will teach you a lesson in pain. Emotional-heart-wrenching-prose.[link]

I was at that festival, and in the interest of truth, Broken Social Scene did not collectively decide to buy marijuana in New York. What they said was that Dave drove to NYC with some unnamed person. That person, not Dave, decided they would stop to purchase pot. Dave's part in the deal was not clarified.

Oh man, that time you were all like "eh" I totally died, and then you were all like "yeah man, we'll send some wicked nasty letters your way"...Yeah, totally died again to the max. BWE, Way to show Canada! Eh...by the way, way to read Pitchfork, just like us...and not comment on police brutality, and rather joke about the nationality of the victim. Just like your uncle said "when you can't say something nice, say something irreverent."
